Walnut Ridge job fair connects job providers to job seekers

WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT)- Potential employees got the chance to connect with local businesses in Walnut Ridge on Tuesday through a job fair.

The Arkansas Department of Workforce Services along with the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce sponsored the fair to give residents an opportunity to network with employers.

Portia woman arrested for theft, forgery

PORTIA, AR (KAIT) –
A Lawrence County woman was arrested following an investigation into the theft
of checkbook belonging to a man from Craighead County.

According to the
Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson, Natasha Fain of Portia was arrest on and
charged with theft and forgery.

A Jonesboro man
reported to the sheriff's office his checkbook had been stolen in Portia. The
sheriff states at least six checks had been forged for over $700.

An investigation
into the incident led deputies to Fain.

May is National Stroke Awareness Month.

According to an email from St. Bernards Healthcare, stroke is a leading cause of death and serious long-term disability in the United States.

To raise stroke awareness, St. Bernards in conjunction with HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital will sponsor two programs.

The first event will be a Lunch & Learn at noon Friday, May 10, at the Health and Wellness Institute.

Cherokee Village woman receives WBC Founders Award

 

Karisa Hendrix of Cherokee Village was one of two students recently awarded the Williams Baptist College Founders Award.

Dr. Tom Jones, president of WBC, presented the awards to Hendrix and Andrew Chandler of Sherwood on Friday, May 3, during the college’s annual graduates luncheon.

Faculty and administrators elect Founders Awards winners they believe are outstanding representatives of the college and its ideals.

Monday July 15, 1963, was pretty much like any other day in Your Region 8.

The sun had burned off a morning fog, according to the Farmer’s Almanac, lifting the temperature to a toasty 88 degrees.

Cardinals fans were probably feeling a little hot under the collar after Lou Brock and the Chicago Cubs shut out St. Louis, 2-0. A year later Brock would be playing for the “right team.”

Aside from Paul McCartney being fined 17 British pounds for speeding through his hometown of Liverpool, not much else was happening around the rest of the world.

Chase ends with Boozer brothers behind bars

Two brothers from Sedgwick were arrested Sunday after leading police on a chase through Lawrence County.

According to an email from Sheriff Jody Dotson, sheriff’s deputies along with the Alicia Police Department and Arkansas State Police officers arrested Christopher Boozer, 37, and Brian Boozer, 34.

Christopher is charged with fleeing, reckless driving and theft of property.  Brian was charged with theft of property and public intoxication.

The arrests came after an Alicia police officer attempted a traffic stop on their 1999 Chevy pickup truck.
