WBC to host Hunger Awareness Dinner

The third annual Hunger Awareness Dinner is set for Thursday, February 7, at Williams Baptist College. Proceeds will go to Heifer International and the Chorti Baptist Development Project.

The dinner is intended to increase awareness about global hunger, poverty and food supply. The student-organized event is a joint effort between WBC's campus ministries office and the business department's student organization, Phi Beta Lambda.

Heifer International's Andre' Gipson will speak at the event. Heifer International is a Little Rock based, non-profit organization whose stated mission is "to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth."

Dan Watson, former WBC vice president for business affairs, left Williams in 2011 to oversee the Chorti Baptist Development Project in Copan Ruinas, Honduras. The non-profit agricultural program is designed to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the Chorti Indians of Honduras and Guatemala.

The Hunger Awareness Dinner will take place in WBC's Mabee Student Center starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The public is invited. Tickets are $1 for students and $5 for non-students.

Tickets may be purchased by calling Summer DeProw at (870) 759-4147 or emailing her at sdeprow@wbcoll.edu. Participants may also purchase tickets at the door.
