Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson says a woman stopped for a traffic violation didn’t have any proof of insurance.  But, he says she did have a pipe and a baggie of meth.

On Thursday, May 16, Amanda Ball, 27, of Powhatan was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, no proof of insurance, fictitious tags and defective equipment.

Her arrest came after a deputy stopped her car near Hoxie.

That’s what a 35-year-old Walnut Ridge man probably would like to say after he was arrested Wednesday for trying to sell prescription drugs to the wrong person.

A concerned citizen called the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office to report that “some guy named Ken Askeland was texting them, trying to sell Xanax,” according to an email from Sheriff Jody Dotson.

A sex offender wanted in Missouri has been found living in Lawrence County.

On Wednesday, sheriff’s deputies arrested Jerry F. Smith at a home in Portia.

According to Sheriff Jody Dotson, the 52-year-old Potosi man was wanted on a felony warrant from Washington County, Missouri, for failing to register as a sex offender.

The warrant carried a $250,000 bond.

Dotson said the arrest came after a concerned citizen called his office to report Smith was a wanted sex offender.

Officers ran a check of Smith and discovered the warrant was valid.

LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – Craighead County dispatch says authorities throughout Region 8 are on the lookout for a man traveling on a stolen vehicle.

They say the man is believed to be traveling in silver Ford Mustang with a black top.

They say he is from Lawrence County and might be headed to Illinois.

At the moment, authorities could not confirm if the man is considered dangerous.

According to an email from Third Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Henry H. Boyce, the Belgian Malinois was purchased using money seized during drug arrests that was later forfeited through the court system.

A Hoxie man, whose sentence for a previous drug offense was suspended, is back behind bars.

Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies arrested Aaron Allen, 33, Tuesday for possession of a controlled substance (meth), possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license.

According to an email from Sheriff Jody Dotson, deputies and Hoxie police were conducting a sobriety/seat belt checkpoint when Allen pulled up.

Chase ends with Boozer brothers behind bars

Two brothers from Sedgwick were arrested Sunday after leading police on a chase through Lawrence County.

According to an email from Sheriff Jody Dotson, sheriff’s deputies along with the Alicia Police Department and Arkansas State Police officers arrested Christopher Boozer, 37, and Brian Boozer, 34.

Christopher is charged with fleeing, reckless driving and theft of property.  Brian was charged with theft of property and public intoxication.

The arrests came after an Alicia police officer attempted a traffic stop on their 1999 Chevy pickup truck.
