Man arrested after stabbing brother in neck | Crime
A fight between two brothers ended with one behind bars and the other recovering from a knife wound.
On Tuesday, Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home near Clover Bend. When deputies arrived at the scene they found Jeremy Liles of Alicia suffering from a stab wound to his neck. His brother, 26-year-old Steven Liles of Alicia, also had cuts to his arms. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene to treat the men's wounds.
According to Sheriff Jody Dotson, the brothers told deputies a man in a white pickup truck had tried to steal their propane tank. When they confronted the man, they said he attacked them with a knife.
Sheriff Dotson said the deputies found the truck “up the road and spoke with the people in the truck.” The people reportedly told deputies they had driven past the Liles’ cabin and saw the two brothers fighting in the front yard.
When deputies confronted the brothers with the information, Jeremy Liles told deputies he and his brother had gotten into a fight. He reportedly said Steven cut his neck then punched out a window, cutting his arms.
The brothers told deputies they made up the story about the guy in the white truck because “they did not want their momma to know what had happened,” Sheriff Dotson said.
Steven Liles was arrested on charges of first degree battery and obstructing governmental operations. He was taken to the Lawrence County Jail to await a bond hearing.
Sheriff Dotson said while at the jail, “Steven took off running out the back door right into the deputies who had just arrested him.” As a result, Liles was also charged with escape.
