Suspected truck thief arrested while driving stolen pickup

A Lawrence County man wanted for stealing a pickup truck earlier this week is behind bars in Randolph County after deputies there spotted him driving the truck.

Branigan Kyle Stacy of Imboden is charged with felony forgery, misdemeanor fleeing, misdemeanor driving on suspended license and misdemeanor theft of property in Randolph County.

He faces even more charges in Lawrence County.

According to Sheriff Jody Dotson, Stacy stole a 2009 Chevy Colorado from a home in the 200-block of West 4th St. in Imboden on Tuesday afternoon.

A day later the pickup truck was spotted at the Burger King in Pocahontas.

When Pocahontas police attempted a traffic stop, Stacy reportedly tried to escape by running and hiding behind a bank.  Stacy then ran to the airport where officers caught and arrested him.

Stacy is currently being held in the Randolph County Jail on $25,000 bond.  He’s scheduled to appear in court on January 14.  He’s due in a Lawrence County courtroom the following day, where he also faces a $20,000 bond.

According to Sheriff Dotson, Stacy must still face formal charges in Lawrence County for stealing the truck, which he reportedly admitted to taking.
