Sheriff: Parolee arrested after he's caught in the act

Just days after he was paroled, a Region 8 man is back behind bars accused of breaking into a home.

On Saturday, Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies arrested 41-year-old Joseph Daniel Gandy of Bono on charges of residential burglary, theft of property, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

According to Sheriff Jody Dotson, his office received a 911 call from a man who said when he arrived at his home on Country Road 635 he saw a pickup truck in his backyard and a door window broken out.

The man told dispatch he could “hear someone in the residence.”

Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies, as well as Hoxie Police, Sedgwick Police and Arkansas State Police officers, converged on the home where they reportedly found Gandy trying to hide.

Sheriff Dotson said Gandy’s pockets were full of jewelry and a coin collection.  He also said the house had been ransacked.

Once Gandy was in custody, deputies reportedly discovered a variety of burglary-type tools in Gandy’s truck.

Sheriff Dotson said Gandy has a “lengthy criminal record,” including convictions in Craighead, Mississippi and Greene counties for robbery and burglary.

Dotson also said that Gandy had just been released from the Arkansas Department of Corrections on January 31.
