Man accused of raping 10-year-old girl | Crime

A Smithville man is locked up in the Lawrence County Jail, accused of raping a 10-year-old girl.

On Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies arrested 49-year-old Michael Lovelady on charges of rape.

According to a news release from Sheriff Jody Dotson, the arrest followed a call to the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division.

Sheriff Dotson says investigators interviewed the young victim, then asked Lovelady to come to the sheriff’s office for questioning.

After Lovelady was read his Miranda rights, he reportedly “admitted to the sexual contact” after a short period of questioning.

Lovelady is currently awaiting a bond hearing.
