Sheriff:  Suspect admitted to stealing, forging checks

 

A Hoxie man faces forgery and theft of property charges after sheriff’s investigators say he stole several checks.

On Friday, Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies arrested 23-year-old Keith Collins.

According to a release from Sheriff Jody Dotson, the arrest came after a Lynn resident reported several of his checks had been stolen and forged.

He said Collins “quickly became a person of interest after deputies spoke to local businesses where the checks had been written.”

Two Missouri men are on ice in the Lawrence County Jail after deputies say they found “ice” in their car.

On Monday, sheriff’s deputies arrested 41-year-old Goldman Truett of Dexter and 30-year-old Shawn Pridemore of Chillicothe for possession of a controlled substance (meth ice) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The arrests followed a traffic stop near Portia.

According  to Sheriff Jody Dotson, while talking to the two men, the deputies noticed burnt tin foil strips in the vehicle that are consistent with meth use.

Two Imboden teens have been arrested in connection with a break-in at Sloan-Hendrix High School.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson, the 16- and 17-year-old suspects broke into the school’s bus shop on June 2 and vandalized a vehicle.  They also reportedly urinated on the floor.

The teens are also accused of breaking into the cafeteria and stealing a laptop computer.

A man faces drug charges after investigators say he stole pain pills from a family member.

Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies arrested 21-year-old Shane Michael Green of Thayer, MO, following a traffic stop Friday.

According to Sheriff Jody Dotson, the arresting deputy found a baggie containing several methadone pills inside Green’s car.  Green reportedly told the deputy he took the pills from a relative.

Methadone is a Schedule II narcotic drug

Green is being held at the Lawrence County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

It took a Lawrence County jury just 52 minutes to find an Imboden man guilty of raping a teenaged girl.

After finding him guilty of four counts of rape, the jury sentenced 37-year-old Curtis Gene Richey to 35 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.

According to Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce,  Richey’s victim was between the ages of 12 and 16 when the crimes occurred.

The jury sentenced him to 10 years on each of the first three counts to run concurrently and 25 years on count four.

When grocery prices go up, many people plant gardens to save some money.  A Lawrence County man apparently thought the price of pot was too expensive, so he decided to grow his own.

Sheriff Jody Dotson says on Tuesday deputies arrested 40-year-old Michael Barnard at his home near Annieville.

Barnard was apparently not surprised when deputies knocked at his door.  According to Sheriff Dotson, Barnard first asked the deputies why they were there.  When they answered “you know why we are here,” Barnard reportedly said “the pot plants.”

Just hours after the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office completed its inaugural K-9 training course, one of their canine officers helped sniff out marijuana and nearly $40,000 cash.

Michale John Otell, 43, of Chico, California, was arrested Friday night while Arkansas State Police officers were conducting a sobriety checkpoint at Imboden.

According to Sheriff Jody Dotson, noticing that Otell “seemed very nervous and in a hurry,” the officers had Lawrence County K-9 officer “Ben” check his vehicle.
