WBC student to perform Senior Recital

 

Andrew Chandler of Sherwood, Ark., will perform his senior recital at Williams Baptist College on Thursday, April 18.  The performance begins at 7 p.m. in the choral room of WBC’s Maddox Center.

Chandler will perform selections from Handel’s “Messiah,” three language pieces and four other worship songs by various composers.

Chandler is a senior church music major at Williams.  He is the husband of Taylor Chandler and the son of Todd and Kelly Chandler of Sherwood.

New York Times bestselling author Acton Bowen, Buddy Mullins of the Gaither vocal band "Testify" and William "Chris" Shelton invite you to answer “A Call to Honor.”

The event will be held Saturday, April 20, at 6 p.m. at the Paragould Community Center.

Shelton, who is the founder of Reach Out Christ’s Kingdom (R.O.C.K.) Ministries in Piggott and the event organizer, describes it as an “inter-denominational, bipartisan call to a higher standard for our youth, men, women, business, political and religious leaders.”

Familiar "old school" performers lined up for Portfest 2013

Portfest 2013 is going "old school."

The Bellamy Brothers, John Conlee, Jo Dee Messina and Eddy Raven will be the featured performers during the 32nd Annual Portfest "Rollin' on the River" Festival.

Conlee and the Bellamy Brothers will perform Friday, June 7.  Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate.  Kids 6 and under get in free.

Conlee will take the stage at 7 p.m. followed by the Bellamy Brothers at 8:30.

On Saturday, May 11, you have a chance to stamp out hunger.

The National Association of Letter Carriers will hold its annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive that day.

All you will need to do is set a bag of non-perishable food next to your mailbox before your regular mail deliver.

The postal workers will do the rest.

Food collected during the drive will benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas, which provides emergency food assistance to 5,100 people each week.

NEA principals invited to discuss ideas, issues at conference

 

School principals from all across Your Region 8 are invited to attend the NEARK Spring Principals’ Conference at Arkansas State University on Friday, May 3.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Karen Cushman, assistant commissioner of the Arkansas Department of Education.

Following her address, breakout sessions will cover numerous timely topics, including implementing the Common Core 9-12, parental and community involvement, issues in special education, school discipline and more.

The conference and lunch are free; but, preregistration is required.

Annual pottery sale date set

 

The ASU Pottery Guild will hold its annual Spring Pottery Sale on April 18 through 20 at The Edge Coffeehouse, 1900 Aggie Road.

The sale will feature handmade ceramics by ASU students, faculty and alumni.

Sale hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
