Take an hour and save 3 lives

 

According to the American Red Cross, in the hour it takes to give blood donors can help save the lives of as many as three people.

On Tuesday, April 30, you’ll have an opportunity to become a life saver.

Black Rock High School, 189 N. St. Joseph St., will host a blood drive from noon until 5 p.m.

You must be 17 years of age (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health in order to be eligible to donate blood.

Eligible donors will need to bring a blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of ID.

For the fourth consecutive year, women who qualify can have screening mammograms performed on site at the St. Bernards Medical Group Health & Fitness Expo.

The St. Bernards Women’s Mobile Health Unit will be at the Expo today to provide mammograms for women who meet specific guidelines.

To qualify, a woman must meet the following criteria:

This year’s St. Bernards Medical Group Health & Fitness Expo will offer a variety of ideas for cooking healthy and eating right.

There will be different demonstrations going on in the Expo’s Healthy Cooking Kitchen, a facility assembled especially for Expo by Gilmore’s Custom Kitchens. Eight different demos will be held during the three-day event, with the featured cooks focusing on foods that are healthy, easy to prepare, kid-friendly and “better choices” that provide energy without excess calories.

New York Times bestselling author Acton Bowen, Buddy Mullins of the Gaither vocal band "Testify" and William "Chris" Shelton invite you to answer “A Call to Honor.”

The event will be held Saturday, April 20, at 6 p.m. at the Paragould Community Center.

Shelton, who is the founder of Reach Out Christ’s Kingdom (R.O.C.K.) Ministries in Piggott and the event organizer, describes it as an “inter-denominational, bipartisan call to a higher standard for our youth, men, women, business, political and religious leaders.”

The Region 8 Job Link Employment Expo will be held tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mall at Turtle Creek.

Top employers from all across Your Region 8 will be meeting with candidates, including NEA Health System, St. Bernards, Nice-Pak, Apex Tool Group and KAIT-TV.

Scouts hosting BBQ cook-off, horseshoe pitch

 

The Imboden Boy Scouts are hosting a BBQ Cook-Off and Horseshoe Pitch on Saturday, April 27, at Imboden Park.

Entry fees are $50 for Boston butts, $50 for ribs and $75 for both.  Prizes will be awarded in each category, as well as a Grand Champion.

The horseshoe pitch is open to two-person teams.  The fee to enter is $20 per team with awards going to the top three finishers.
