Sensory Saturday movie this weekend at Malco Hollywood

 

The Arkansas Parent Training and Information Center is partnering with Jonesboro Malco to present a sensory-friendly movie to families and adults with special needs or sensory issues, like autism.

Rise of the Guardians will be shown at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Malco Hollywood Cinema, 2407 E. Parker Rd. in Jonesboro.

Tickets are $5.50.

Norma "Melissa" Tennison

 

Melissa Tennison, 50, formerly of Walnut Ridge passed from this life Monday at her residence. She was born August 20, 1962 in Manila to Junior and Kathryn Wheeler Davis. She had lived in Walnut Ridge most of her life before moving to Bono 8 years ago. She was a homemaker but her most important job was being a Nana. She had also worked at Don and Loree's Fish House for over 10 years and was of the Assembly of God belief.

She was preceded in death by her father, Junior Davis; daughter, Angelia Courtni Tennison and nephew, Joshua Barnes.

Santa to read at Fun Forest this weekend

 

In addition to a plate of home-baked cookies and a cold glass of milk, Santa Claus also loves a good book.

This Saturday, December 1, at 11 a.m. the jolly old elf will be reading to kids at the St. Bernards Fun Forest in the Mall at Turtle Creek.

Santa will be reading one of his favorites:  Jingle Bells.  The book tells the story of how a sleighful of animals help Santa deliver gifts when his reindeer get sick.  Parents and children alike are sure to enjoy the tale.

William “Bill” Russell Rea, 82 of Ravenden, died November 25, 2012 at his home. Born August 22, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of Am Vets. He worked for the United States Postal Service and retired from the Aurora School District. He was a member of the Ravenden Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Georgia Anita “Arkie” Rea; a son, William Jeffrey; and his parents, Milton and Margaret Katherine Rea.

TCF candle lighting in memory of lost children

The Compassionate Friends of Lawrence County will hold its Annual Candle Lighting on Sunday, December 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lawrence County Meeting Room.

TCF assists families as they grieve the loss of a child, no matter what age.

It is not affiliated with any religion and there are no membership fees or dues.  All bereaved families are welcome.

Last day to sign up for youth basketball program

The Main Street Church of Christ will have its 7th annual Winter Youth Basketball program for grades pre-kindergarten through the 7th grade (boys and girls) beginning December 8 and running through February 17, 2013. 

The deadline to sign up for the program is today, November 16. Sign-up forms are available at the church office at 319 E. Main Street or in all area schools.
