JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- With flu season just around the corner, the Centers for Disease Control is encouraging every one over the age of 6 months to get a flu shot.

"They use to
say around October end of September to get your flu shot but now they recommend
whenever it's available," said pharmacist, Brian Oholendt at Gibson's Pharmacy in Jonesboro.
He said they have
been giving out flu shots over the past few days.
"There's not really a flu season anymore, it's
basically year round," Oholendt said.
He said the flu
shot is effective for a year. This year there are more flu shots available
than ever before and 20% of the vaccines will protect against four types of
flu. Oholendt said they carry the trivalent vaccine.

lot of times it's easier for the children to receive that one."

got ill and you know we just recommend what the CDC recommends," Oholendt said.

"If you do get the flu it will lessen the
severity and symptoms and hopefully it prevents you from getting it altogether," Oholendt said. "I'd rather be protected than not."

This year, those getting a flu shot will be able to choose from over a dozen different vaccines, including some available for the first time.
There will be shots injected in the arm and vaccines sprayed into the nose. Some of the vaccines protect against three strains of flu and others that protect against four.
At least 154 children died of the flu last season, according to the CDC. Most weren't vaccinated.
