The NAIA describes its Champions of Character as those who display the group's
five core values: respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and
sportsmanship. Williams Baptist College gives away an annual award to the male
and female athletes who best represent Champions of Character throughout the
year.
The 2011-12
award winners are Karisa Hendrix and Dakota Melton. Certificates were presented
to the WBC student-athletes in a ceremony before the first round of the American
Midwest Conference softball tournament at Williams.
Hendrix is a
junior from Cherokee Village, Ark., majoring in social studies education. The
softball pitcher is the daughter of Kevin and Michelle Hendrix of Cherokee
Village.
"Karisa is a
bright young lady who demonstrates on and off the field what we desire from our
athletes," said Jeff Rider, Director of Athletics at WBC.
Melton will
graduate with a degree in Christian ministries in May. The Mountain Home, Ark.,
native competed as a pitcher for the Eagles baseball squad. He is the son of
Theresa Melton and the late Philip Melton of Mountain Home.
"Dakota has been
a leader on this campus, representing respect and sportsmanship towards fellow
students, professors, and staff," said Rider.
