Woman rearrested following surprise drug test

A Region 8 woman is back behind bars after investigators say she failed a surprise drug test.

Jackie Parish, 37, of Black Rock is charged with violating probation and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies arrested Parish on Tuesday after receiving information from a concerned citizen that she was using meth, according to an email from Sheriff Jody Dotson.

Deputies contacted her probation officer who then called Parish in for a surprise drug test.

A man wanted on a previous drug charge apparently thought hiding in a closet would keep him from being arrested.

He thought wrong.

On Tuesday Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies arrested Christopher Gray, 28, after finding him hiding in a bedroom closet at a home in Imboden.

Also arrested was the homeowner, 50-year-old Colynda Lyons.

According to Sheriff Jody Dotson, both Lyons and Gray are charged with possession of a controlled substance (meth and marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Lyons is also charged with hindering apprehension.

You don’t need a degree in computer science to build a website for your business.  You just need a day.

On Thursday, June 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Arkansas State University Small Business and Technology Development Center will offer a “Website in a Day” workshop for local small business owners and their employees.

Participants will learn how to build effective, easy-to-maintain websites with free online tools.  Laptops will be provided by ASU SBTDC.

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - We all want to have fun in the sun but when the heat starts to reach high temperatures It's important to remember a few things to avoid heat -related injuries.

"I drink a ton of water and I won't let myself go without getting in some shade for very long," said Jessica Waldrupe.

If she knows her and her son will be out in the heat, she'll make sure to give him what he needs to stay hydrated.

St. Bernards offering free health screenings

This Friday, June 14, from 7 to 10 a.m. St. Bernards Health & Wellness will sponsor free health screenings.

The screenings will include total cholesterol, anemia, glucose, blood pressure and body mass index.

ASUN to hold health care provider CPR class

ASUN to hold health care provider CPR class

Arkansas State University-Newport will hold an American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR training course on Saturday, July 13.

The class will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 127 of Walton Hall on the Newport campus.

The course is limited to 9 students.  The cost is $50 per student.

WBC students headed to national business competition

WBC students headed to national business competition

Members of the Williams Baptist College chapter of Phi Beta Lambda are headed for the Golden State.

The students, who either major or minor in business, will participate in the annual PBL national competition June 22 through 25.

In April, at the state PBL conference, WBC students earned a total of 38 certificates and placed in 26 events. 

As a result of their outstanding state performance, 29 students qualified for nationals; 19 will make the trip and compete.

The contests are divided between individual and team events.
