Summer Safety Health Fair set for Saturday

The Community Healthcare Center in Walnut Ridge will hold a Summer Safety Health Fair on Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the clinic parking lot at 201 Colonial Dr.

A number of local community organizations will be participating, including the Walnut Ridge Fire and Police Departments, Lawrence Co. Game and Fish Commission, Walnut Ridge Armory and City Pool, and Braces by Burris.

There will be booths set up to discuss and provide useful information on water, fire, ATV and bicycle safety; as well as skin cancer awareness and prevention.

LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – A Hoxie woman is booked for meth
after police receive tip.

On Tuesday, a concerned citizen contacted Lawrence County Deputies
about 42-year-old Tracy Bennett. The informant told police that Bennett was
selling and using methamphetamine in her home.

Lawrence County deputies, along with the Hoxie Police Department
went to Bennett's home. Police say she gave officers permission to search her
home.

Police say they found meth and items used to ingest the substance.

Civil War marker to be dedicated at Jacksonport

The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission and the Jackson County Historical Society will dedicate a marker commemorating the 1862 shelling of Jacksonport, according to Betsy Watson, president of the historical society.

The dedication will be held on Sunday, June 2, the actual 151st anniversary of the shelling, at Jacksonport State Park at 4:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend this dedication. 

On June 2, 1862, Capt. Joseph Fry of the Confederate Navy, arrived at Jacksonport aboard his ship, the “Maurepas.”

POCAHONTAS (KAIT) - Arkansas Moving of Pocahontas will be taking a load of supplies to the relief of Oklahoma victims and workers. The items they are needing are heavy duty trash bags , paper towels, toiletries, baby diapers, baby wipes, work gloves, rakes, shovels and monetary donations.

There are three locations to drop off items in Randolph County: Salvation Army on Old County Road, Dawson's Furniture Store on U.S. 62 West, and Orscheln Farm & Home at U.S. 62 and Park Street.

NEA Baptist hosting free blood pressure seminar, luncheon

According to the American Medical Group Association, one in three U.S. adults has high blood pressure.  Less than half of those patients have it adequately controlled.

On Wednesday, May 29, at 11:30 a.m. Dr. Adam Woodruff, nephrologist and clinical hypertension  specialist with NEA Baptist Clinic, will be the featured speaker at a “Measure Up, Pressure Down” luncheon.

The free seminar will be held at Southwest Church of Christ Life Center, located at 1601 James St. in Jonesboro.

WBC Softball falls to Spring Hill

The sixth ranked Lady Eagles softball squad lost against Spring Hill College by the score of 7-1 on Monday evening in Columbus, Ga. The Williams Baptist College softball team faced the Badgers in the semifinals of the winner's bracket at the 2013 NAIA National Championship.

The loss sends the Lady Eagles to the loser's bracket where they will meet Reinhardt University on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
