NEA principals invited to discuss ideas, issues at conference

 

School principals from all across Your Region 8 are invited to attend the NEARK Spring Principals’ Conference at Arkansas State University on Friday, May 3.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Karen Cushman, assistant commissioner of the Arkansas Department of Education.

Following her address, breakout sessions will cover numerous timely topics, including implementing the Common Core 9-12, parental and community involvement, issues in special education, school discipline and more.

The conference and lunch are free; but, preregistration is required.

The duo of Karisa Hendrix and Shelby Anderson from Williams Baptist College has once again swept the honors of American Midwest Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week.

Williams, ranked 5th in the NAIA, had another great week on the diamond winning all six of its contests and outscoring opponents 81-6.  With the victories the Lady Eagles are 30-2 on the season and enter a busy week of conference games.

WBC presents 2 community awards

The Williams Baptist College chapter of Phi Beta Lambda business society presented two community awards at its March 27 awards ceremony, held on the Williams campus.

The Business Owner of the Year award was presented to local businessman Danny West.  West was selected for the award as a result of opening Art and Culture frozen yogurt shop and The Dark Side coffeehouse, and for starting a weekly open mic night at the establishment.

Dr. Gary Hollingsworth, senior pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock, will be the guest speaker at the Williams Baptist College baccalaureate and commencement exercises on Saturday, May 4.

Hollingsworth will also be honored as the college’s 2013 Distinguished Baptist Minister.

Williams’ graduates of 50 or more years will also be recognized as WBC’s Golden Eagles.

Adams to head new international program at WBC

 

International programs have been added to the Williams Baptist College framework, and with them a new face can also be seen around the campus. 

Adam Adams, a native of Troy, MO, recently arrived at Williams as the Director of International Programs.

According to a news release from WBC, Adams’ extensive educational background has helped to prepare him for work with international students.

Williams Baptist Eagles Baseball adds Parker Thompson

Head Coach Frank Lee and the Williams Baptist College baseball team have added another player to the already impressive 2013 signing class.  The signed commitment came from Parker Thompson of Russellville, Ark. 

Thompson will graduate from Pottsville High School in May before attending WBC in the fall of 2013.  He was voted to the 2012 All-Conference team.   He is 5'11'' and will play a utility role for the Eagles.
