Holocaust Museum bringing "Deadly Medicine" to ASU

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s traveling exhibition, “Deadly Medicine: Creating the Master Race,” will premiere on Thursday, April 25, at the Dean B. Ellis Library at Arkansas State University. The exhibit will run through June 16.

“Deadly Medicine: Creating the Master Race” examines how the Nazi leadership, in collaboration with individuals in professions traditionally charged with healing and the public good, used science to help legitimize persecution, murder and, ultimately, genocide.

After a weekend at the state Phi Beta Lambda competition in Little Rock, the Williams Baptist College PBL chapter has achieved Gold Chapter status and brought home a host of other awards.  Williams earned a total of 38 certificates and placed in 26 events at the annual PBL competition, held April 12-13.

PBL is the collegiate extension of the Future BusinessLeaders of America.

The board of trustees at Williams Baptist College heard about the school's new strategic plan at its regularly scheduled meeting Friday, April 12. The board also approved a $10.5 million budget for the upcoming school year and affirmed the promotion of two faculty members.

WBC student to perform Senior Recital

WBC student to perform Senior Recital

 

Andrew Chandler of Sherwood, Ark., will perform his senior recital at Williams Baptist College on Thursday, April 18.  The performance begins at 7 p.m. in the choral room of WBC’s Maddox Center.

Chandler will perform selections from Handel’s “Messiah,” three language pieces and four other worship songs by various composers.

Chandler is a senior church music major at Williams.  He is the husband of Taylor Chandler and the son of Todd and Kelly Chandler of Sherwood.

Sen. Boozman to address police academy graduates

 

On Friday, April 12, more than 40 officers from police departments and sheriff’s offices all across Your Region 8 will graduate from the Black River Technical College Law Enforcement Training Academy.

Senator John Boozman will deliver the commencement address, starting at 1 p.m. in the Randolph County Development Center Auditorium, 1410 Hwy. 304 East in Pocahontas.

Graduates of the 13-week program completed instruction in standard police tactics, firearms, legal education, technical skills and practical exercises.

NEA principals invited to discuss ideas, issues at conference

NEA principals invited to discuss ideas, issues at conference

 

School principals from all across Your Region 8 are invited to attend the NEARK Spring Principals’ Conference at Arkansas State University on Friday, May 3.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Karen Cushman, assistant commissioner of the Arkansas Department of Education.

Following her address, breakout sessions will cover numerous timely topics, including implementing the Common Core 9-12, parental and community involvement, issues in special education, school discipline and more.

The conference and lunch are free; but, preregistration is required.
