Have a couple of hours to spare? 

Then strike out for the Jonesboro Bowling Center to help the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northeast Arkansas.

The Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. Thursday, April 4, and from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, April 6.

Proceeds will be used to support mentoring programs in Jonesboro and the surrounding area.

Like many in Your Region 8, Lake Charles State Park has started spring cleaning and they need to clear out some room.

On Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. the park will hold a yard sale at the Visitor’s Center.

Hundreds of items from their gift shop will be up for sale, including adult and children’s t-shirts, jewelry, books, toys, mugs, fishing tackle, wind chimes, figurines, shelving units and much more.

Geocaching is a sport growing in popularity, thanks to smart phones and GPS devices.

On Saturday, March 16, Jacksonport State Park in Newport will host a GPS workshop.

Participants will learn how to operate a GPS unit, locate hidden caches and create their own hidden caches.

A contest will be held on locating caches in the park with prizes going to the winners.  All participants will receive a gift.

You can bring your own GPS unit or the park will provide one for you to use during the workshop.

WBC Eagles duo repeat as softball honorees

From Williams Baptist College

For the second week in a row, the Williams Baptist College duo of Karisa Hendrix and Shelby Anderson has swiped American Midwest Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week honors.

Hendrix, last year's AMC Pitcher of the Year, had another stellar week on the mound.  She pitched three complete games and one relief appearance during the week.  The flamethrower struck out 24 batters in 19 innings of action, allowing just five hits and two runs.  This week brings her season record on the mound to 6-1.

The athletic department at Williams Baptist College is expanding its coaching staff, allowing the softball and volleyball teams to each have their own head coach. Eric Newell, who has been coaching both sports, will remain the head coach of the nationally ranked softball Eagles, and the college will hire a new coach for volleyball.
