Jacksonport to host GPS workshop

 

Geocaching is a sport growing in popularity, thanks to smart phones and GPS devices.

On Saturday, March 16, Jacksonport State Park in Newport will host a GPS workshop.

Participants will learn how to operate a GPS unit, locate hidden caches and create their own hidden caches.

A contest will be held on locating caches in the park with prizes going to the winners.  All participants will receive a gift.

You can bring your own GPS unit or the park will provide one for you to use during the workshop.

Williams Baptist College cheerleading tryouts for the 2013-2014 season will be held Saturday, March 9, at 12:00 p.m. Tryouts will be in the Southerland-Mabee Center at WBC.

Those planning to tryout are asked to wear gym shorts, a t-shirt and appropriate footwear. Participants are also expected to perform a halftime/quarter cheer, sideline chant, a dance and three different jumps. Tumbling is permitted and encouraged, but not required. There will be no stunting.

The Lady Eagles from Williams Baptist College beat the Lady Trojans from Hannibal-LaGrange University in the American Midwest Conference quarterfinals on Wednesday evening.  The final score was 59-54 in front of a lively crowd at the Southerland-Mabee Center.

Williams used the crowd to get off to a sizzling start, making five of their first six shots to open a 10-3 advantage five minutes into the contest.  The Lady Eagles chilled from there and HLGU went on a 22-to-11 run to the end the first half with a 25-21 lead.

Williams Baptist College will be holding cheerleading tryouts for its 2013-14 season on Saturday, March 9, beginning at noon in the Southerland-Mabee Center.

Those planning to audition are asked to wear gym shorts, a t-shirt and appropriate footwear.

Despite wintery weather throughout the week, the Williams Baptist College Eagles were able to host four baseball contests, finishing the week 2-2. 

The first series was played on Tuesday, Feb. 19, against College of the Ozarks at WBC's Shell Field.   After falling in game one 1-3, WBC bounced back and won 10-6 in game two.

Because of the wintry weather, the opening round of Class 2A North Region at Sloan-Hendrix High School has been postponed until Friday, according to the Arkansas Activities Association.

Winter Weather Watch tips off changes to basketball tourneys

With much of Your Region 8 under a Winter Weather Watch, several regional basketball tournaments are being changed, according to the Arkansas Activities Association.

In Class 2A action, the North Region tournament at Sloan-Hendrix High School will tip off at 2 p.m. today.  It was scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

In Class 1A, the Region 2 at Hillcrest High School will also start two hours earlier at 2 p.m.
