From Strawberry to Imboden and Walnut Ridge, Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies and employees were busy Saturday removing drugs from their community.
The sheriff’s office and the ATOD Coalition of Lawrence County teamed up for the 5th Annual Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Take Back event.
From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Deputies and volunteers manned three drop-off locations: the sheriff’s office in Walnut Ridge, the Imboden substation and the Strawberry Community Center.
During that time they collected 118 pounds of old, unwanted prescription drugs.
Sheriff Jody Dotson says the medications will be turned over to the DEA to be incinerated at a plant in Huntville, AL.
He thanked everyone who “came out and made this event a success.”
